Montclair, NJ - Senior forward KAITLYN STRUSS scored 3:04 into overtime as eighth-ranked Montclair State slipped past No. 9 Skidmore, 2-1 in a matchup of two Top 10 NFHCA ranked teams at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Junior AMBER HASLETT had a goal for the Red Hawks, who are off to a 6-0 start with the victory. Montclair also improved to 3-1 all-time against the Thoroughbreds (3-2), with all three victories coming by one-goal margins.

McGuire made made 11 saves in the first half as Montclair put forth 14 in the first 35 minutes of the contest. She made three in the first six minutes and then got help from Kayla Rose, who made a defensive save on a shot by Haslett at the 7:15 mark. The Thoroughbreds pushed the ball back the other way and got the game's first goal. Richmond picked up a loose ball in the circle on the left side and fired across inside the right post for her first of the season and a 1-0 lead.

McGuire made that lead hol up for the rest of the period with help from Meaghan Lynch who denied KELLY WATSON a goal with another defensive save with 13:40 left in the first.

Montclair State finally broke through 4:04 into the second half taking advantage of a penalty corner that was called when McGuire tried to knock away loose ball and was out of the circle. The Red Hawks capitalized as Watson inserted the ball up top on the left side to Haslett who rocketed a shot into the back of the cage, knotting the game at 1-1.

Both teams played staunch defense over the next 20-plus minutes. Skidmore would get a chance to take the lead  with 6:35 to go however MSU keeper KAITLIN MAGUIRE stopped Rose on a shot at the left and then followed up with another save, this one against  Sarah Winters. Skidmore's McGuire registered two more save in the final two minutes as the game headed into overtime.

Montclair would get all the scoring opportunities in the extra period. McGuire denied Struss a minute into the OT. Two minutes later as the Throughbreds tried to clear the ball, Meghan Mollanhan settled the free ball 25 yards out and flipped the ball into the circle to Struss who was all by her lonesome. Struss took the feed and made a move around to her right before flipping the ball inside the right post for the game winner.
