Montclair, NJ - Women's soccer bounced back to an impressive New Jersey Atlantic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon after beating Ramapo College at home 4-0.
After a shaky start, the Red Hawks settled down and controlled the tempo of the match, led by a stellar first-half performance by midfielder
MICHAELA KNOBLOCK. The third year player caused havoc on the right wing with her deliveries into the box but MSU came empty in the opening '25.
In the midst of searching for the opener, sophomore
EMILY BEENDERS finally connected to one of Knoblock's deliveries with a crisp finish in the '28. Montclair State's trio midfielders,
ASHLEY KOESTER,
ALEX GLICKMAN and
DEANNA ROTELLA all played well in the first-half despite the score.
The Red Hawks wasted no time getting on the scoresheet in the second-half after Knoblock terrific cross, which was met first time by sophomore
CHRISTINE MAYORGA to put the home side up 2-0 in the '50. Similar to first-half, MSU were in the driving seat and hunting for more goals, and Beenders was there to deliver in the '59 completing her brace. The forward finished the game with six shots with two on frame.
Freshman forward
MELANIE CUNHA also played well and collected her third goal of the campaign in the '64. The Red Hawks outplayed their opponent in the every aspect of the game, including 16-4 in the shot category. Securing first league win is huge for MSU as they look to build on this going forward.
Next up for Montclair State is Stevens on Wednesday September, 20, at MSU Soccer Park. The kickoff is set for 7: 00 PM.
