th-ranked Montclair State got its 2017 season off to a good start with a 3-1 victory over Eastern University on Friday afternoon.
Freshman
KAITLYN PRESTINARI collected a goal in her collegiate debut as the Red Hawks (1-0) collected their seventh consecutive season-opening victory.
Montclair State outshot the Eagles (0-1) 10-1 in the first half but could only get one goal as Eastern keeper Nicole Berger stopped seven shots in the first 35 minutes. One of those shots however turned out to be the only score MSU needed. Watson scored at the 17:42 mark gathering a loose ball before flipping a shot into the back of the cage.
MSU added to the lead in the second with 11:46 left on a penalty stroke goal by Prestinari. Haslett got the final score two minutes later smacking in a reverse stick shots through a screen of people in front.
KAITLIN MAGUIRE stopped a pair of shots for MSU, which finished with a 17-4 advantage in shots. Montclair State also out-cornered the Eagles, 7-3.
The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 6 when it travels to New Paltz, NY for a 4:30 pm matchup with the Hawks. It is the second of five straight road games to open the season for MSU.
