Montclair, NJ – Junior guard
AKBAR HOFFMAN scored 20 points as Montclair State received contributions from its entire roster in a 92-62 victory over Penn College in the Ollie Gelston Classic at the Panzer Athletic Center on Friday evening.
The Red Hawks (2-0) connected on 15 three-point field goals and doubled up the Penn College on the boards as it built a 16-point halftime lead.
JOSEPH RADI and
TROY EDWARDS had nine points apiece as Montclair received 50 points from its bench.
MSU trailed 8-5 in the first five minutes before outscoring Penn College 24-4 over the next five minutes. Hoffman drilled a three-pointer to start the run with a Radi three giving the Red Hawks the lead.
JUSTIN PORTER his from behind the arc and later finished off a steal with a layup for an 18-8 advantage with 12:36 to play.
MALACHI SMYTHE connected twice from the line before Hoffman pulled off the rare four-point play with 10:56 to go making the score 24-10. Hoffman added one more three with an
EDDIE EMEDOH fast-break layup giving Montclair State at 29-12 advantage.
Montclair led 41-25 at the half and pushed that lead to 52-29 as
JORDAN ROBERSON scored on a layup. Radi's three-pointer increased the advantage to 20 points (55-35).
JAHVAN ROSBIA scored eight in a row as Montclair led 65-37 before Hoffman's final three of the evening swelled the lead to 76-45 with 6:50 remaining.
The Red Hawks shot 48 percent (35-of-73) from the field and were 15-of-37 from three-point range. Hoffman was 7-of-10 from the floor (5-of-7 3FGs).
JALEN PARHAM finished with eight points and a team-best nine rebounds. Roberson chipped in with six points and six boards for Montclair, which outrebounded Penn College 52-26 including 18 on the offensive end.
Montclair is back in action on Saturday, November 18 taking on CCNY in the Ollie Gelston Classic with tipoff set for Noon.
