Ewing, NJ – Despite a career-best 32 points from sophomore guard
MYLES MITCHELL-WHITE, the Montclair State men's basketball team suffered its first NJAC loss on Saturday falling to The College of New Jersey 93-83 at Packer Hall.
JUSTIN PORTER and
EDDIE EMEDOH had 11 points each for the Red Hawks (8-2, 4-1 NJAC), who had their three-game winning streak snapped with the loss. Randy Walko collected a game-high 34 points for the Lions (5-3, 4-1 NJAC).
Emedoh gave Montclair a 3-0 lead 21 seconds into the game however the Lions scored 10 of the next 12 points for a 10-5 lead on a Ryan Jensen three-pointer with 17:04 left. MSU closed within 13-10 but Walko scored five in a row to boost the lead to eight points. Jordan Glover connected from behind the arc to push the lead to 27-17 and the Lions took their biggest lead of the half at 45-28 on Glover's two foul shots with 1:57 to play.
New Jersey would shoot 51 percent in the first half and led 49-33 at the break. Montclair State would only get as close at 11 in the second half.
Mitchell-White grabbed seven rebounds for the Red Hawks. Irving Callender had eight points while
JALEN PARHAM recorded six.
Montclair State is back in action on Wednesday, December 12 hosting Rutgers-Newark at the Panzer Athletic Center at 8:00 pm.
