Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's swimming and diving team closed out its dual meet schedule with a 115-79 victory over Vassar College at the Panzer Pool on Wednesday evening.
The Red Hawks captured seven events as it finished the year at 7-3, the third straight season MSU has won seven or more meets in a campaign.
Junior
CHARLES COBBERTT captured a pair of individual events leading a 1-2 MSU finish in both. Cobbertt won the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.63 seconds, out-touching teammate
KEVIN GIBSON by .20 seconds. He claimed the second victory in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.68 seconds.
JAMES SINGEWALD came in right behind at 56.03 seconds.
Singewald and Cobbertt teamed up with
KEVIN CLAUSS and
STEVEN ROTH for first place in the 200 medley relay (1:41.43). Roth collected a win in the 100 butterfly (53.43 seconds) while
MICHAEL PACHECO posted a win in the 1000 freestyle (10:15.87).
BRENDAN TURNER led a 1-2-3 Red Hawk showing in the 100 freestyle. Turner registered a winning time of 50.10 with
DANIEL BORJAS (51.83) and
MYLES UPCHURCH (52.66) placing second and third, respectively.
MICHAEL TRAINA claimed the top spot in the one-meter diving event with a score of 171.15 points.
Montclair is now off until Friday, February 16 when it competes in the three-day Metropolitan Conference Championships in New Brunswick, NJ at Rutgers University.
