Montclair State Win Streak Snapped by No. 2 Middlebury, 15-7

Brown Two Goals for Red Hawks

Montclair, NJ – Senior midfielder Hollis Perticone scored three times with three others collecting two as No. 2 Middlebury College bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 15-7 victory over Montclair State at Sprague Field on Thursday afternoon.

Kirsten Murphy, Kate Zecca and Grace Getman each tallied a pair of goals as the Panthers improved to 7-1 on the year. Freshman RHIANNON BROWN scored three times for Montclair State (4-4), which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Middlebury jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Casey O'Neill scored 65 seconds into the contest. Georgia Carroll and Peticone scored 14 seconds part for the three-goal advantage before Montclair's JESSICA ANDREULA converted a free-position attempt with 24:28 to play in the opening period.

Murphy began a four-goal run as the Panthers widened the lead to 7-1 at halftime. Getman, Sara DiCenso and Zecca each had a goal in the spurt.

MICHAELAH REYNOLDS opened the second half for Montclair with a goal that was matched by Emily Barnard 2:20 into the new period. CHELSEA ORBAN scored 19 seconds later making the score 8-3 however Getman finished off a feed from Emma McDonagh pushing the Middlebubry lead to six.

SYDNEE SAPP registered a goal with 22:06 to play getting Montclair State within 10-4. Middlebury then put the game away scoring six of the next seven goals. Perticone had two of those and a score by MG Gately with 4:47 left put the Panthers up 15-5. MSU's Brown had the last two goals for the final margin.

Julia Keith finished with four saves for Middlebury, which got three ground balls and two caused turnovers from Addy Mitchell. Perticone also pulled in four draws and had three ground balls. Evie Keating, Hayden Garrett and Perticone each forced two turnovers.

Goalkeeper ALLYN LILIEN made 11 saves for the Red Hawks. LEANNE MCCLOSKEY (three ground balls) and BRITTANY COSTIGAN had eight and six draws, respectively for Montclair State.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, April 3 with a 4:00 pm road contest in Madison, NJ at FDU-Florham.
