AMBER POWERS drove in three runs in the first game and sophomores
VALENTINA CUCCI and
SARAH GUY had two RBI apiece in the nightcap as Montclair State swept pair of contests at the Sunkissed Games on Wednesday.
Junior Samantha DiClementi had a pair of RBI as the Red Hawks improved to 5-1 on the year with an 8-0 win against St. Joseph's (ME) and a 7-2 victory over Meredith College.
The Red Hawks got all the scoring they needed against St. Joseph's in the bottom of the first plating five runs.
KAYLEE POWERS led off with a walk and
NOEL HODGINS followed with a single. After a sacrifice moved the runners up,
AMBER POWERS laced the ball through the right side for a triple giving the Red Hawks a 2-0 lead.
AMBER POWERS scored on an error and two batters later DiClementi's singled added two more for the five run advantage.
Montclair tacked on three runs in the fourth.
KAYLEE POWERS singled home the first run and
ELENA RADESICH made it a 7-0 game with a RBI single.
AMBER POWERS capped the scoring with her third RBI on a base hit through the right side.
Sophomore righthander
KIARA RUIZ allowed five hits and struck out three as she registered her first shutout of the season. Ruiz improved to 2-0.
Against Meredith, Montclair jumped out to a 4-0 lead after scoring in each of the first three innings.
AMBER POWERS had a sacrifice fly in the first and
KAYLEE POWERS singled through the right side in the second inning scoring Cucci, who then collected a two-run single in the third for the four-run advantage.
Meredith (9-7) got two runs back in the fourth however the Red Hawks added three runs in the fifth. DiClementi brought home the first with a single and Guy drilled a two-run triple making the score 7-2.
Sophomore righthander
NICOLE MAJEWSKI (2-0) recorded her second win in as many starts. Majewski went the first 4 1/3 innings allowing two runs and six hits. She struck out two before giving way to freshman
KAYLA VOLANTE who fanned two and gave up two hits in recording the final eight outs.
KAYLEE POWERS and Cucci each had three hits while Hodgins, Radesich, Saperstein and DiClementi had two hit apiece.
Montclair State returns to action on Thursday, March 8 with two more games. The Red Hawks face Defiance College at 9:00 am with a second meeting against Baldwin Wallace set for 11:15 am. Montclair defeated the Yellow Jackets 4-3 in eight innings on Monday.
