Kissimmee, FL – The Montclair State softball team closed out its Sunkissed Games appearance with a pair of losses on Friday. The Red Hawks (6-4) fell to Illinois College 11-6 before suffering a 10-6 setback against Alfred University.
Against Illinois College, Montclair found itself down 8-0 after three innings as the Lady Blues scored a run in the first and added three more in the second and four in the third. MSU battled back with three runs in the fourth.
BLAKE SAPERSTEIN, Samantha DiClementi and
ALANA LUNA each had an RBI in the inning.
Illinois College extended the lead to 10-3 in its half of the fourth however freshman
AMBER POWERS blasted a three-run homer in the fifth. That would as close as Montclair would get as Illinois College held off that threat and tacked on a run in its half of the inning for the final score.
KIARA RUIZ (3-1) took the loss for the Red Hawks.
KAYLEE POWERS had two hits for Montclair State.
The early rough start trend continued for MSU in the loss to Alfred as the Saxons scored six times in the second to build and 8-0 lead. Montclair got on the board in the second on a
VICTORIA GEHRING run-scoring foul with an error allowing
KAYLEE POWERS to score in the third.
Alfred would take a 10-3 lead in the fifth before MSU scored three times in its half for what turned out to be the final margin.

AMBER POWERS each drove in a run.
KAYLA VOLANTE (0-1) took the loss in the game.
KAYLEE POWERS and DiClementi had two hits each.
The Red Hawks are scheduled to play their home opener on Thursday, March 15 against Drew University. First pitch of the doubleheader at the MSU Softball Stadium is set for 3:00 pm.
