Red Hawks Fall to Bowdoin

Wulster Two Goals for Red Hawks

Montclair, NJ – Senior midfielder Matthew Crowell scored four goals while Shawn Daly added a hat trick as Bowdoin College downed Montclair State 16-5 at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Jimmy Young and Jake Crossman each collected a pair of goals for the Polar Bears, who moved to 8-2 on the season. BRADY WULSTER netted a pair of goals for the Red Hawks, who fell back to the .500 mark at 4-4 on the season.

DAN BELLEZZA game Montclair and early 1-0 lead but goals by Crossman and Crowell 41 seconds apart gave Bowdoin a 2-1 lead with five minutes to go in the opening period. Bellezza found Wulster with 3:06 left knotting the contest at two before Bowdoin regained the lead for good with the final two scores of the period.

MATT HAEMMERLE scored 10 seconds into the second quarter getting MSU within 4-3 but Bowdoin took control outscoring MSU 5-0 the rest of the period for a 9-3 lead at the break. Crowell got the final tally with 3:06 remaining.

Young began the second half with an unassisted tally that was matched by Wulster, who scored on a man-up goal with 7:11 to go making the score 10-4. Crowell answered for the Polar Bears with his fourth goal and Donal Mullane's goal with 4:31 to play helped Bowdoin to a 12-4 lead after three periods.

Young registered four assists with Mullane recording a goal and assist. John Young made six saves for the Polar Bears. Sam Carlin won seven faceoffs and had five ground balls.

JACK CARDEW made four saves before giving way to MATTHEW MCLAREN, who had five stops. KYLE MATTHEWS was 8-of-17 on faceoffs with five ground balls. TIM KIRN and ANDREW MONAHAN had two ground balls and two caused turnovers apiece.

Montclair State is back in action on Wednesday, April 11 at home against the United States Merchant Marine Academy with start time set for 7:30 pm.
