CHELSEA ORBAN scored four times however it wouldn't be enough as third-seeded Montclair State was bumped from the NJAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament with a 15-9 loss to second-seeded Rowan University on Wednesday evening.
Freshman
RHIANNON BROWN scored twice as the Red Hawks fell to 9-7 with their second loss to the Profs this season. MSU fell to Rowan in Glassboro, 14-10 back on April 21.
Maddie Bray had four goals with Liz Kramer and Kim Doyle scoring three each as Rowan (14-2) moves on to the championship game on Saturday, May 5 at top-seeded The College of New Jersey.
The Profs jumped out to a quick four-goal lead in the first three-plus minutes of the contest. Doyle got the first 32 seconds into the game with Bray adding a goal 70 seconds later for a 2-0 lead. Taylor Gretz scored with 27:21 to play and Kramer's goal 42 seconds later gave Rowan a 4-0 lead.
Nicole Mickendrow and Ashley Lechliter tacked on two more allowing Rowan to increase its lead to 6-0 with 11:09 remaining. Brown got the Red Hawks on the board with just over 10 minutes to play however Kramer answered for Rowan making the score 7-1.
Montclair closed out the first half on a three-goal run to get within three at the break.
KYLE GRAVER scored with 7:38 left and Orban scored unassisted 47 seconds later. Brown collected her second with 3:59 to go as the Red Hawks trailed 7-4.
Bray and Kramer opened the second half with goals for the Profs pushing the lead back to 9-4. After an Orban goal with 25:35 left, Bray, Doyle and Lechliter each scored over a two-minute span as Rowan moved out to a 12-5 lead.
Orban and
ERIN CAMPBELL countered for MSU to get the deficit to 12-7 but the Profs tallied three of the next four goals to put the game away.
Freshman
BRITTANY COSTIGAN recorded six draws to raise her single-season record to 121. She also forced three turnovers and scooped up three ground balls.
LEANNE MCCLOSKEY added three draws and three ground balls. Amanda McGuire had five saves in the first 27 minutes before
ALLYN LILIEN finished out the game stopping 11 shots.
