Montclair, NJ – Freshman midfielder
ANTHONY PELAEZ scored twice and assisted on two goals as Montclair State bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 7-0 victory over CCNY at a rainy MSU Soccer Park on Monday evening.
Freshman forward
SEBASTIAN CORTES added two goals as the Red Hawks improved to 4-1-1 on the young season. MSU also improved to 20-1 all-time against the Beavers (0-3-1) winning for the ninth consecutive time.
A scoreless contest through the first 20 minutes, Montclair exploded for four goals in a six-minute span. Pelaez set up
NIXON SOGLO for the latter's fourth goal of the season at the 21:32 mark with
CHAZ BURNETT connecting on his third tally of the year 72 seconds later for a 2-0 advantage.
Cortes registered the first of his two goals in the 26
th minute finishing off a feed from
MATT NETO and Pelaez made it 4-0 with 18 minutes to go in the opening period.
Burnett set up
EMILLIO POMPETTI in the 54
th minute extending the lead to 5-0 with Cortes getting his second at 64:07 off an assist from Pelaez, who got the final goal 1:21 later.
MIKE SAALFRANK and
JAMES HART combined on the shutout, Montclair State's fourth of the season, with Hart making one save. MSU outshot CCNY 24-2 and took eight of the nine corner kicks in the match.
The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, September 12 when it travels to Bethlehem, PA to face Moravian College.
