JORDAN ROBERSON registered a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds as Montclair State knocked off Kean University at the Panzer Athletic Center on Monday evening.
Sophomore
JOSEPH RADI drilled five three-pointers and finished with 15 points as the Red Hawks (14-6, 9-4 NJAC) posted their second straight victory while sweeping the season series with the Cougars. Micah Kerr had a game-high 22 points, including the 1000
th of his career for Kean (4-16, 2-11 NJAC).
Tied 7-7 in the opening minutes, Montclair State scored nine straight only to see the Cougars answer with a 9-0 of their own deadlocking the contest at 16-16 with 8:37 to play. The game would be tied
twice more over the next three minutes before MSU used a 10-0 burst to take the lead for good.
Roberson started the run with a three and added a field goal the next time down with Radi's three making the score 29-21 with a little over four minutes left.
MYLES MITCHELL-WHITE sank two free throws to push the lead to double digits and a putback by
MALACHI SMYTHE before the halftime buzzer gave Montclair a 38-23 lead at the break.
Kean would get as close at eight points with 15:21 to play as Kerr scored on a jumper for a 47-39 MSU lead.
JUSTIN PORTER answered with a layup with back-to-back buckets by
AKBAR HOFFMAN extending the lead to 53-39 with 13 minutes remaining.
JALEN PARHAM finished with 13 points for the Red Hawks while Hoffman totaled 10 along with three assists. MSU saw 12 players tally in the scoring column as it outrebounded Kean 51-29 including 17 offensive boards. That led to 22 second-chance points by the Red Hawks.
Montclair State is back in action on Wednesday, January 30 traveling to Jersey City, NJ to face first-place New Jersey City at 8:00 pm.
