Rolls Leads Women's Soccer to 2-1 win over Stockton

Freshman scores two goals in victory

Galloway, N.J. – Montclair State (10-4-2, 5-0-1) remained unbeaten in NJAC play with a 2-1 victory over Stockton (12-2-1, 4-1-1) on Saturday afternoon. The Red Hawks handed the Ospreys their first setback in conference play..

Freshman TORI ROLLS scored both Red Hawk goals and leads the team with seven goals on the year. She has stepped up her play during the NJAC season, as all of her goals have come against conference opponents.

Montclair's defense made the first big play of the match as goalkeeper PHOEBE BLEDSOE made a diving save 5:54 into the match on a shot by Breanna Clowney  from just inside the top right corner of the box.

The Red Hawks got on the board with 17:33 in the first as Montclair executed on a  2 on 1 advantage. EMILY BEENDERS crossed the ball from right side as Rolls was alone in the box, took a touch and shot to give MSU a 1-0 lead.

Rolls scored her second of the day with 13:15 left in the first half for a 2-0 advantage. Rolls took the free kick from JULIA KELLY and found the back of the net. MSU was in control during the first half and outshot the Ospreys 8-4 in the opening 45 minutes.

Stockton cut the lead in half 16:48 into the second half. Dasey DiElmo made a  run down the right side from midfield into the box, where she was fouled. Salena LeDonne stepped to the penalty spot and deposited a low shot inside the right post to trim the deficit to one.

The Ospreys pushed forward throughout the last 20 minutes in an effort to tie the game, but they could not get a shot past Bledsoe. The goalie made a diving save on a shot from the top of box by Williams with 14:29 remaining.

Bledsoe made two more saves in the final 10 minutes as she finished with four saves to pick up the win.
