Montclair, NJ - Following a resounding Homecoming victory a week ago, Montclair State heads back out on the road for its next contest as the Red Hawks matchup with Wesley College at Wolverine Stadium on Saturday.
Montclair posted its first shutout of the season and held Christopher Newport to 135 yard in a 24-0 triumph at Sprague Field. Quarterback
JA'QUILL BURCH threw a pair of touchdown passes and the Red Hawks rushed for a season-high 172 yards. Freshman running back
ABELLANY MENDEZ, named NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week, led the ground attack with 95 yards on six carries. Linebacker
SEAMUS NELSON, the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, led the MSU defense with nine tackles, two for loss and an interception.
Meanwhile, nine miles away from Montclair, the Wolverines ran away from William Paterson in a 45-7 victory. Ruhann Peele accounted for two of Wesley's touchdowns and led the way in receptions with nine catches for 141 yards. Quarterback Jon Mullin, the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, went 23-32 with 365 yards with three touchdowns. Dante Daniel lead the defense with five solo tackles.
This will be the ninth meeting between Montclair State and Wesley with the Red Hawks winning the first three contests before Wesley posted a victory in the second round of the 2010 NCAA Division III Playoffs and have added four more wins since becoming part of the NJAC in 2015. MSU snapped the streak last season with a 10-9 victory in Dover.
