Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State volleyball team posted a .378 hitting percentage and served up 17 aces as the Red Hawks rolled past Lehman College in their final regular-season home match on Tuesday evening.
SCHYLER WHITE, one of four seniors honored before the match, hit .524 with 12 kills committing just one error in 21 attempts as the Red Hawks (19-6) knocked off the Lightning (4-22) 25-4, 25-8, 25-9 for its third straight victory. Fellow senior Catilin Aarts finished with 15 digs while
JILLIAN WILSON added six kills and a pair of blocks. The trio were honored prior to the match along with
CAITLIN LANGE.
MSU registered the 10 of the first 11 points of the opening set as it collected nine aces.
SIYARA HERBERT and
CARLIN JANNSCH each served five-point runs with
SARAH GONCZLIK and Wilson combining on a block for a 10-1 lead. Leading 13-3, Gonzclik stepped to the line and served 11 consecutive points, six coming via the ace including four straight the mat the score 19-3. Her sixth gave MSU a 24-3 advantage and after Lehman stopped the run the Lightning committed an attack error on set point.
The Red Hawks once again built a large lead in the second set with 12 of the first 13 points. Megan 'Rourke served a run of eight straight points with White posting three kills in the spurt. White added two more kills, the last making the score 20-6. Gonczlik added two more aces with Wilson and Herbert combining on a block on set point as Montclair State took a 2-0 lead with the 25-8 victory.
The third set would stay close with Montclair leading 11-8 before scoring 14 of the final 15 points to close out the match. Herbert and
JENNA TRONIO had kills with a Jannsch ace giving Montclair a 15-8 lead. Tronio sparked a match-ending nine-point run that included three aces by O'Rourke and three kills by White including match point.
Herbert finished with seven kills with Gonczlik and Tronio posting five and four, respectively. O'Rourke totaled 28 assists in addition to her four aces. White also had six digs.
Montclair finishes off its regular season with four match this weekend in Rochester, NY in the New York Regional Challenge. MSU faces Nazareth and University of Rochester on Friday, November 1 at 4pm and 6pm, respectively. The Red Hawks take on RIT and Fredonia the following day before hosting the first round of the NJAC Tournament on Tuesday, November 5.
