Men's Soccer Races Past Rutgers-Newark 3-0

Three Different Goal Scorers Pace Red Hawk Offense

Montclair, NJ – Montclair used two first half goals to defeat Rutgers-Newark 3-0 on Saturday night at MSU Soccer Park.

OSCAR SANCHEZ, JUSTIN GOLDBERG and ERICK CHICAS each netted a goal for the Red Hawks (9-4, 2-2) to help the Red Hawks win its second straight NJAC contest.

Sanchez scored his team-leading eighth goal in the 20th minute as he headed in a cross by JOSE HUERTA to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Following a save on FRANK ORAMAS' shot, Goldberg buried the rebound in the back of the net with only four seconds left to give MSU a 2-0 lead at half.

MSU put the icing on the cake as Sanchez headed the ball beautifully to Chicas, setting him up for a laser from just outside the box to give MSU the 3-0 lead.

MICHAEL MEJIA registered his second-straight shutout while saving four shots. All four of his stops were picked up in the second half to help the Red Hawks hang onto the lead.

Andres Medina tallied seven saves for the Scarlet Raiders (4-7-1, 1-2-1)

Montclair travels to Madison, NJ for non-conference action on Wednesday to face FDU-Florham at 7 p.m.
