Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State field hockey team closed out its 2019 season on Friday evening with a 2-0 victory over Ramapo College at Sprague Field.
Freshman
LINSEY CHAMPA and senior
KELLY WATSON each scored a goal as the Red Hawks finished the year at 10-7 overall, 2-4 in conference play.
ELIZABETH CIMILLUCA assisted on both goals while senior
NICOLE ANDRIANI stopped three shots for her sixth shutout.
Champa gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead 7:24 into the contest as she recorded her fourth goal of the season. Taking a penalty corner, Cimilluca received the insert on the left wing and fired a ball toward the middle. Champa, standing five yards out, redirected the shot into the left side of the cage for the game's first goal.
Montclair extended the lead to 2-0 with 7:48 to play in the first half again. Cimilluca would be the catalyst again driving in along the right side before sending a pass through several defenders in front to Watson who one-timed the shot from five yards out. It was Watson's eighth goal of the year.
Meanwhile the MSU defense allowed just one shot through the first 45 minutes which was kicked away by Andriani. The Red Hawks would also get a great defensive save by
KATELYN OSTERLIND in the fourth as she batted away a shot by Victoria Docherty. Andriani collected one more save which came with 6:11 left on a sliding stop against Docherty to keep the Roadrunners off the board.
Montclair outshot Ramapo 12-6 in the game and also had the advantage in penalty corners, 10-8.
