Women's Soccer Blanks Stockton in NJAC Semifinals, 2-0

D'Emilio, Beenders Each Score as MSU Advances to Title Game

Montclair, N.J. – The second-seeded Montclair State women's soccer team scored once in each half to blank third-seeded Stockton University 2-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals Tuesday.

The Red Hawks (13-5-2) advance to face top-seeded The College of New Jersey Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Lions Stadium in Ewing, N.J. TCNJ advanced to the championship game with a 2-0 triumph over fourth-seeded Rowan University. The Lions topped Montclair 3-0 earlier this season at MSU Soccer Park. The two sides have met in the championship game eight previous times, with TCNJ claiming the last two contests 1-0.

The first half was nearly identical for both sides, with a majority of the play occurring in the midfield. Montclair had shots on goal in the seventh and ninth that Osprey goalkeeper Jennifer Devault stopped. After EMILY DEGEYTER had her attempt sail high in the 33rd minute, the hosts got on the board late in the period. Freshman SAMANTHA SENATORE rung a shot off the crossbar, but the rebound caromed to freshman GABBY D'EMILIO who headed the rebound in for her fourth tally of the year.

Montclair doubled their advantage in the 61st minute, as senior EMILY BEENDERS stripped a defender near midfield. Beenders moved in all alone and slipped a low shot into the net for her eighth goal of the year. The Montclair defense locked down, holding the guests to just one shot on target over the final 29:46 of the game.

Chisom Onyewyenyi came off the bench with a team-high four shots, as Montclair outshot Stockton 18-12. Junior LINDSAY FREEWALT made saves to earn her fifth victory of the season. Salena LeDonne fired a team-high five shots, while Devault made seven stops in goal.
