Galloway, NJÂ - The fourth-seeded Montclair State volleyball was topped by top-seeded Stockton University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference semifinals Thursday.
The Red Hawks, who fell to Stockton for the second time this season, were knocked off 25-14, 25-15, 25-13. The Ospreys will face third-seeded Rowan University Saturday afternoon for the NJAC Championship.
The first set saw Montclair (21-10) and Stockton even at 7, 8, and 9 before the hosts went on a 4-0 run to grab the lead for good. Sophomore LEAH HIGGINS pinned down a kill to trim the deficit to 17-13 before Stockton closed the first period out with eight of the final nine tallies.
Sophomore CARLY WATERMAN recorded a kill off a MEGAN O'ROURKE set to get MSU within one at 10-9. The Red Hawks could not get any closer as Stockton surrendered just five more points to take the 2-0 lead. Montclair took advantage of consecutive unforced errors in the third stanza, shortening the Osprey advantage to 11-6. Stockton used a series of multi-point runs to hold off the Red Hawks and claim the match in three sets.
Waterman led Montclair with 10 kills while O'Rourke handed out 23 assists, and rookie MADDIE VALKO chipped in 15 digs. For Stockton, Emily Sullivan notched 32 assists as Charlotte Leon tallied 10 kills.
