Montclair, NJ – After playing its first six games away from home, the Montclair State men's basketball team were plenty happy to be back home as the Red Hawks extended their winning streak to three with a 96-79 victory over Kean on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
IRVING CALLENDER IV led all scorers with 17 points off the bench as MSU upped its record to 5-2 on the season including a 3-0 mark in NJAC play.
JALEN PARHAM added 16 points while
NATE NAHIRNY totaled 14 as Montclair put five players in double figures.
Jared Latane scored 15 points for the Cougars (1-7, 0-3 NJAC). Jeff Cooper and Kendall Blount had 14 and 13 points respectively.
Montclair State scored the first nine points of the contest only to see that match by Kean during a fast and furious five-minute span to open the game. They would trade the next four points before MSU tallied eight in a row taking a 21-13 advantage on a Callender jumper with 10:41 left. The Cougars cut that down to 26-20 a minute later before the Red Hawks embarked on an 18-4 run over the next five minutes. Six different players scored in the spurt with
EDDIE EMEDOH getting the last two making the score 44-24 with 4:44 to go before halftime.
The Red Hawks led 50-34 at the break and opened the second half with 19 of the first 24 points. Freshman
KEYON PRICE finished off a break with a layup as Montclair led 69-39 with 14:20 to play.
Parham, Emedoh (13 points) and
JUSTIN PORTER each grabbed six rebounds for MSU.
AKBAR HOFFMAN totaled 12 points along with four assists and three steals.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, December 11 as they go back out on the road. Montclair will be in Jersey City, NJ to face New Jersey City University at 8:00 pm.
