Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State swimming and diving teams earned victories over the College of Staten Island Saturday afternoon.
The men's team picked up a 144-123 win for their first win of the season as the women's side notched a 144-122 triumph in their third victory of the year.
The women's team opened the event with the top two times in the 200-medley relay.
DANI ZIMMERMAN,
CAMRYN VOGEL,
MARGAUX WINCHOCK, and
SOPHIA CIARAVINO placed first with a time of 1:59.6 while
ERIN BARRETT, Jackie Grayson,
MOLLY GRAY, and
PONSEE IBRAHIM took second in 2:04.
TAYLOR WADDLETON captured second in the 1,000-free, while the Red Hawks claimed the top three slots in the 200-freestyle.
CLAIRE LUIGARD was first of the trio, touching the wall in 2:08.03.
Rothamel, Barrett, and Waddleton went 1-2-3 in the 50-backstroke, while Vogel and Grayson were within .66 seconds of each in the 50-yard breaststroke. Vogel was first in 35.59, with Grayson coming in at 36.25. Luigard recorded her second first-place finish of the day, winning the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.53.
MADISON FRANKE topped her competition by over two seconds in the 50-free, as she clocked in with a time of 25.86.
Ibrahim won both diving portions, while
KYRA SHEEHAN claimed third. Ibrahim registered 165.15 in the second round, while Sheehan tallied 105.6. Winchock, Ciaravino, and Grayson went 1-2-3 in the 100-freestyle before won the 100-backstroke by nearly 10 seconds, turning in a time of 1:03.69.
On the men's side,
GREG KARBACK,
MATTHEW CIATTARELLI,
SAMUEL GOLOVIN, and
KEVIN GIBSON took first in 1:42.72 in the 200-yard medley relay, while
TYLER DORSETT and
MITCHELL LAYNE went 1-2 in the 1,000-freestyle. Gibson earned his first individual first-place win of the day, touching the wall in 1:52.7 during the 200-free. He edged out teammate Zack Woltman who was second in 1:57.08.
CHRYSTIAN MUHLEISEN won the 50-yard backstroke in 27.53, clipping Karback, who was second in 27.53. Ciattarelli and Golovin picked up triumphs in the 50-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard butterfly, respectively, before Gibson notched a first-place time of 23.27 in the 50-yard freestyle. Golovin capped off his stellar afternoon by winning the 100-freestyle, finishing in 49.3 seconds.
Gibson joined Golovin as four-time first-place victors by gaining a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.57 before Ciattarelli claimed first in the 100-breaststroke in 1:04.37. He beat his CSI competitor by .42 seconds. MSU took the first three places in the 500-free in close out the scoring for the Red Hawks on the afternoon.
After a training trip to the island of St. Croix, the Red Hawks return to the pool on January 14, when they welcome FDU-Florham to the Panzer Pool at 5:00 pm.
