Kissimmee, FL – The Montclair State softball team played to identical scores for the third consecutive day however this time the Red Hawks came out with a pair of victories knocking off Lawrence University and Marywood University at The Spring Games on Friday afternoon.
Junior first baseman
VALENTINA CUCCI blasted three home runs and drove in 11 as MSU registered 13-1 wins to improve to 5-3 on the year.
LIA STAMILE and
BLAKE SAPERSTEIN also hit home runs for Montclair, which banged out 26 hits in the two contests.
The Red Hawks fell behind 1-0 against Lawrence as the Vikings (0-1) scored in the bottom of the first inning. But the rest of the offensive day belonged to MSU which erupted for seven runs in the top of the second.
LIA STAMILE put Montclair in front with a two-run double and
ALEXIS LAW added an RBI single making the score 3-1. Montclair State loaded the bases and Cucci cleared them with a grand slam giving the Red Hawks a 7-1 advantage.
Law collected a second RBI in the third and Cucci scored on an error in the fourth extending the lead to 9-1. Stamile launched a two-run homer in the fifth as Montclair tacked on four more runs.
KATIE DEBELL and
SAM DICLEMENTI each had a run batted in.
Junior
KIARA RUIZ (2-2) got the victory as she went the first four innings allowing a run and six hits with a strikeout and walk. Cucci, Stamile (4 RBI) and
ELENA RADESICH each had two hits for MSU.
Montclair again found itself down 1-0 in the game with Marywood when it exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first. Cucci erased the deficit with a three-run homer and Law plated another with a fielder's choice.
AMBER POWERS and
KAYLEE POWERS also had one RBI apiece during the inning.
Cucci came through in the third with another three-run homer pushing the lead to 10-1. Saperstein put one out the park two batters later. Montclair recorded its final two runs in the fourth on a Cucci RBI ground out and Radeisch RBI single.
Junior
NICOLE MAJEWSKI earned the victory upping her record to 3-1.
AMBER POWERS,
KAYLEE POWERS and Radesich all had three hits for Montclair State. Cucci, Saperstein and DiClementi finished with two each as the Red Hawks had 16 in the game.
The Red Hawks conclude their Florida trip on Saturday, March 16 with two games. Montclair takes on UMass Dartmouth at 9:30 am followed by an 11:45 am contest against St. Joseph's (LI).
