Men's Lacrosse Falls at No. 11 Stevens, 13-6

Boyle Two Goals as Red Hawks Drop Second Straight

Hoboken, NJ – Stevens' Nico Ipeker scored four times while Ryan Gebhardt added three goals as the 11th-ranked Ducks used a strong first quarter in a 13-6 win over Montclair State at the DeBaun Athletic Complex on Tuesday evening.

Ryan Caplis scored twice as Stevens improved to 8-2 on the season with their fourth straight win over the Red Hawks. CHRISTIAN BOYLE had twice for Montclair (3-4), which dropped its second straight contest.

Gebhardt gave the hosts a 1-0 lead 1:23 into the contest, but that was answered quickly as Boyle scored less than a minute later. Stevens would score the next seven goals, including the final four of the opening quarter. Michael Burns got the first with 7:26 to play and man-up tallies by Gebhardt and Ipeker pushed the lead to 4-1. Eric Radbourne netted the final goal with 3:02 left as the Ducks led 5-1.

The run continued in the second. Brendan Monteleone, Caplis and Gebhardt each scored in the first nine minutes helping Stevens widen its lead to 8-1. Montclair State would cut that deficit in half over the final three minutes. MATT HAEMMERLE scored with 3:04 left with TYLER MCCREERY finding the back of the net 52 seconds later. Boyle's second with 1:37 to go brought the Red Hawks within 8-4 at halftime.

SEAN STADTLANDER drew MSU close to start the third period however Ipeker and Max Bailey scored 25 seconds apart giving the Ducks a 10-5 advantage. Caplis' goal with 45 seconds to play sent Stevens into the final period with an 11-5 lead.

Ipeker registered his final two goals in the fourth. BRYAN PETERS accounted for the final Montclair State goal with just over two minutes left.

KYLE MATTHEWS won nine faceoffs and scooped up five ground balls for MSU. JESSE JAMES WEST and WILSON SMITH posted three ground balls apiece. JACK CARDEW and MATTHEW MCLAREN finished with six and eight saves, respectively.

The Red Hawks are back home at Sprague Field for its next contest. MSU hosts Maritime College on Saturday, March 30 at 3:00 pm.
