LIA STAMILE drove in two runs in the opener with junior
AMBER POWERS collecting three RBI in the nightcap as Montclair State extended its winning streak to 13 games with a sweep of Hunter College at the MSU Softball Stadium on Tuesday.
Junior
BLAKE SAPERSTEIN had a pair of RBI as the Red Hawks posted wins of 6-2 and 8-2 to improve to 15-3 on the season. Allyson Bricker and Caroline Bibula each drove in a run for the Hawks (2-3).
Hunter took a 2-0 lead in the first game scoring twice in the top of the third after the first two hitters were retired. The Hawks strung together four consecutive hits with Bibula's RBI single plating the first run. Salvador followed with a base hit through the left side scoring Erin Schweers for the two-run advantage.
MSU countered in its half.
AMBER POWERS and
KAYLEE POWERS each singled with one out with a ground out moving the sisters up to second and third. Stamille then pulled a ball just inside the first base bag scoring both runners as Montclair knotted the game at 2-2.
The Red Hawks moved in front in the bottom of the fifth.
ALEXIS LAW led off with a single and went to second on a sacrifice. She got third on an infield single by
KAYLEE POWERS and later scored on a passed ball for the go-ahead run. Montclair loaded the bases later in the inning and pushed across another run as
ELENA RADESICH drew a walk making the score 4-2.
Samantha DiClementi homered to open the sixth innings increasing the lead to three runs.
KAYLEE POWERS delivered the final run with a run-scoring double.
Righthander
KAYLA VOLANTE (3-0) got the victory in relief as she tossed 2 2/3 innings of relief striking out two. Junior
NICOLE MAJEWSKI snuffed out a Hunter rally in the seventh to record her second save of the season.
KAYLEE POWERS finished 3-for-4 while Law was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Montclair State moved out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning of the second contest.
TAYLOR BROWN singled to center scoring Radesich with
AMBER POWERS adding a run-scoring single. MSU extended the lead to 5-0 in the fourth.
AMBER POWERS brought in the first run with a ground out and
KAYLEE POWERS drove in the next run with a base hit. Stamile's double down the left field line accounted for the final run.
The Hawks got two runs back in the fifth inning however
AMBER POWERS answered for MSU in the bottom of the inning on an RBI ground out for a 6-2 lead. Saperstein doubled home two runs in the sixth for the final Red Hawks runs.
Junior
KIARA RUIZ (4-2) earned the win as she went the first four innings allowing two runs and four hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Freshman righthander
ALYSSA BERNARDO, the NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week, logged the final three innings striking out three to record her third save.
Montclair is back in action on Thursday, March 28 with another home doubleheader. The Red Hawks host Centenary University at 3:00 pm.
