Men's Lacrosse Overpowers Centenary, 24-1

16 Players Score as Red Hawks Roll Past Cyclones

Montclair, NJ – Senior DAN BELLEZZA scored three times leading 16 different goal scorers as Montclair State overpowered Centenary University 24-1 in a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.

MATT HAEMMERLE, CHRISTIAN BOYLE, TYLER MCCREERY, CONOR KIMBALL, BRYAN PETERS and JESSE JAMES WEST each tallied two goals as the Red Hawks moved past the .500 mark at 7-6 while improving to 3-1 in the CSAC.

Kyle Mott had the lone goal for the Cyclones (3-8, 1-4 CSAC).

MSU scored all 10 goals in the first quarter starting with a Peters goal 44 seconds into the game. Bellezza and MICHAEL FERDINANDI scored 22 seconds apart and Bellezza's second goal with 10:17 left made the score 4-0. Boyle found the back of the net a minute later with DAN DELARGY scoring 35 seconds later increasing the lead to 6-0.

McCreery connected with 7:54 to play before two straight by Haemmerle upped the lead to 9-0. STEVE PRINCE recorded the final goal of the period, an unassisted tally with 3:15 left.

West scored with 6:12 remaining in the second with Peters following less than a minute later giving Montclair a 12-0 lead. After Mott snapped the string with 3:41 to go, MSU registered three goals in the final two minutes. West set up Bellezza for the first with Laracca and KYLE MATTHEWS tallying goals in the final 30 seconds sending the Red Hawks into halftime with a 15-1 lead.

Haemmerle added five assists to his night along with a pair of ground balls. Matthews was 11-of-12 on faceoffs with six ground balls. JACK CARDEW stopped two shots in the first half before giving way to MATTHEW MCLAREN and TOM POLLOCK combined for four saves in the final 30 minutes.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, April 20 with another CSAC contest. The Red Hawks host Kean University at Sprague Field with the start times set for 3:00 pm.
