Men's Soccer Pulls Away From Centenary, 4-1

Soglo Goal, Assist a Red Hawk Get Past Cyclones

Montclair, NJ – Senior forward NIXON SOGLO scored once and assisted on another as Montclair State pulled away from Centenary University for a 4-1 victory at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday afternoon.

OSCAR SANCHEZ, COLIN MULLIGAN and JUSTIN GOLDBERG each collected a goal as the Red Hawks (6-2) won their third straight. MSU improved to 8-0 all-time against the Cyclones (1-7) in the first meeting between the teams since September 2008.

Soglo got the Red Hawks on the board in the 16th minute as he knocked in a pass from CHRISTIAN NUNEZ for his xx goal of the season. Centenary would answer nearly 10 minutes later as Stephen Zuluaga served a ball off a corner kick to the far side. Besnik Hadzovic flicked a header into the upper right former for his first of the season and a 1-1 tie.

Montclair State countered four minutes later as Sanchez scored his team-leading five goal of the year. The freshman stole a clear from 25 yards out and powered inside the box before flicking a shot past a diving Wil Hodic.

MSU maintained that one-goal lead until the second half when Mulligan connected at the 64:05 mark. Soglo gathered a ball on the top right side of the box and slid a pass to Mulligan, who fired a shot into the lower left corner for the goal. Goldberg capped the scored with 25:28 to play tapping in a deflected pass from DIMITRI MATARAS.

MICHAEL MEJIA earned the shutout as made one saves. The Red Hawks outshot the Cyclones 28-3 and took 17 corner kicks in the contest.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, September 21 as it opens defense of its NJAC title. MSU is in Camden, NJ to face Rutgers-Camden with kickoff set for 1:00 pm.
