Poughkeepsie, NY – Sophomore
CARLY WATERMAN collected 32 kills along with 19 digs as Montclair State swept its final two matches at the Vassar Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomores
LEAH HIGGINS and
VICTORIA TENNON posted 13 kills apiece as the Red Hawks (8-3) swept past Medialle and Nazareth to complete the tournament at 3-0. MSU opened the weekend with a three-set victory against host Vassar.
MSU hit .325 and committed just eight errors in its sweep of Medaille. Waterman had 14 kills and posted a .343 hitting percentage as Montclair won the match by scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-16. Higgins recorded nine kills along with a pair of blocks while
JILLIAN WILSON and Tennon notched nine each. Setter
MEGAN O'ROURKE had 34 assists in addition to five digs.
MADDIE VALKO led all players with 18 digs while
SIYARA HERBERT (two aces) hit double digits in that category with 10.
In the victory versus Nazareth, Waterman registered a double-double with 18 kills and 10 digs as MSU took the match 25-17, 25-19 and 25-21. Tennon totaled six kills with a pair of blocks with freshman
GIANNA ARIAS adding five in addition to four blocks. O'Rourke had 29 assists and seven digs. Herbert led MSU with 17 digs and also collected a pair of aces.
Montclair State is back in action on Tuesday, September 24 with its second NJAC match of the season. The Red Hawks will be in Jersey City, NJ to face New Jersey City at 1:00 pm.
