Stockton Edges Men's Basketball in Overtime

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's basketball team dropped an 89-87 overtime contest to Stockton University in New Jersey Athletic Conference action Saturday.

The Ospreys (16-8, 13-4 NJAC) took both games from the Red Hawks (10-14, 8-9 NJAC) this season after picking up an 80-68 win at home on January 18.

Senior JALEN PARHAM tallied four straight points as the Red Hawks opened the game on a 7-2 spurt. A 13-4 run by the Ospreys gave them the lead before a three-pointer by JOSEPH RADI switched the edge back to Montclair. After a NATE NAHIRNY jumper in the paint gave MSU an 18-17 advantage, Stockton embarked on a 14-3 run over the next five minutes to open up a double-digit lead.

Montclair cut that lead in half as DEAIREUS BROWN hit a three, and IRVING CALLENDER IV hit a fast-break layup, but the Ospreys outscored the Red Hawks 8-3 over the final 4:17 to head into halftime with a 39-29 lead. Parham led the Red Hawks with eight first-half points on 4-of-5 shooting.

A Radi triple 18:35 into the second period shrunk the lead to five at 43-38, and a JUSTIN PORTER three-pointer made it a one-possession game with 13:36 left. The Red Hawks evened the game at 54 with 11:30 to go in the half, as senior EDDIE EMEDOH hit a jumper in the paint to close out a 7-0 run.

Montclair gained their first lead since the 11:12 mark of the first period when Emedoh hit from deep with 10:21 to go. Brown also hit a three to stretch the MSU lead back to four, and a Nahirny triple at the 7:18 mark gave the hosts their biggest lead of the day at 71-65. The Ospreys were able to regain the lead back, using a 9-0 run to jump in front 76-72.

Kadian Dawkins hit a layup in the paint with 40 seconds to go to make it a five-point game, and after a Nahirny made jumper, DJ Campbell hit two from the charity stripe for an 81-76 lead. Incredibly, Montclair battled back to force overtime, as Porter stole an inbound pass and was fouled shooting a three. Porter stepped to the line and hit all three, tying the game at 81 to send the affair to an extra session.

Emedoh pushed the Red Hawks back in front, hitting a layup and a free-throw. After a Campbell jumper, Rynell Lawrence hit a three to give Stockton a lead they would not surrender. Radi brought the Red Hawks back to a one-point deficit before Campbell hit one of two at the line with 29 ticks left to make it 89-87. Montclair went for the win, but Nahirny's three with four seconds to go was off the mark, and Dawkins grabbed the final rebound to give Stockton the win.

Emedoh came off the bench to notch a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds while Radi had 15 points. Porter and Nahirny combined for 25 points, while Parham added 11 on 5-of-6 shooting. Kyion Flanders led all scorers with 27 points to pace the Ospreys.

In a pregame Senior Day ceremony, the Red Hawks honored Porter, Emedoh, Nahirny, and Parham for their contributions to the men's basketball program.

The Red Hawks close out the regular season on Wednesday, heading to Camden to battle Rutgers University-Camden at 8 pm.
