Mahwah, NJ – The No. 8/9 Montclair State men's soccer team ran their winning streak to eight games with a 1-0 victory Ramapo College in New Jersey Athletic Conference action Wednesday.
Freshman
AMER LUKOVIC tallied a goal for the Red Hawks (12-1-1, 6-0 NJAC), while goalkeeper Joshua Schaffer made six saves for the Roadrunners (6-6-1, 1-4-1 NJAC).
Montclair nearly opened the scoring 1:33 into the game, but junior
JOSIAH CRAWFORD had his shot parried away by Schaffer. Senior goalkeeper
SHANE KEENAN kept the game scoreless with two saves early on before Lukovic broke through in the 10th minute. Crawford drove through the defense and slipped a low pass to Lukovic, who fired a low shot past the diving Schaffer for the 1-0 lead. Lukovic has scored a goal in his last three games and six of his previous seven contests. Both sides notched just one shot on target the rest of the half, and MSU went into the break with the 1-0 lead.
Ramapo had a pair of corner kicks early in the second period but could not put a shot on the frame. The second half featured a lot of play in the midfield as the two sides tried to find a goal. After replacing Keenan in the 69th minute, senior
ANDRES LEZME preserved the 1-0 margin with a stop on former Red Hawk
OSBIN MENDEZ with 19 seconds to play.
Lukovic tallied a game-high seven shots, while Keenan and Lezme combined for four saves. Ederson La Torre and Dorant Bokshi paced Ramapo with three shots apiece.
The Red Hawks return home on Saturday, as they host William Paterson at 7 pm.
