Volleyball: Gameday Preview vs. Misericordia

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State volleyball team hosts Misericordia University Tuesday evening.

LAST TIME OUT

The Red Hawks (16-7, 6-1 NJAC) rallied from two sets down to top Hunter College in the first of two matches Saturday. CARLY WATERMAN led the way with 15 kills, as NADYA ACKERMANIAN added 13. KATELYN MONAGHAN paced the defensive unit with 22 digs in the win. The Red Hawks rebounded from a first set setback to top Mount St. Mary in four in the second match. LEAH HIGGINS tallied 12 kills while GIANNA ARIAS posted seven solo blocks.
 
AWARD SEASON

Arias was chosen as the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 5.0 blocks and 5.5 kills in a 4-0 week. Arias also became just the fifth student-athlete in program history to record six solo blocks in a game and just the third to do it twice. In Saturday's five-frame thriller against host Hunter, she notched seven kills and six solo rejections in the victory. She capped off her week by tallying seven solo blocks in four sets against Mount St. Mary, helping the team close out the week.
 
MILESTONE

Waterman became the sixth student-athlete in program history to notch 1,000 career kills as she did so against Mount St. Mary. Her 1,004 career kills are just 31 out of fifth, and 76 out of fourth on the all-time kills list in program history.

MISERICORDIA REPORT

The Cougars are 12-10 on the year, including a 3-2 mark in the MAC Freedom. They have won four straight matches and swept a tri-match against Marywood and Keuka on Saturday./
 
LAST MEETING

MSU topped Misericordia in five sets on September 27, 2014. Courtney Matlock tallied 15 kills, as Angela Campo handed out 39 assists in the victory.
 
SERIES HISTORY

Montclair is 4-2 all-time against Misericordia. During the series, the two sides have traded two-game winning streaks, with Misericordia gaining wins in the middle two meetings.
