Van Tassel Notches 12th Goal

Montclair, NJ – Senior forward Christina Cammarata knocked in a pass from Sophia Foschini with 11:37 remaining in the fourth quarter lifting 13th-ranked The College of New Jersey to a 2-1 victory over Montclair State at Sprague Field on Saturday evening.

Foschini added a goal for the Lions (11-4, 4-2 NJAC), who extended their winning streak to three games as it heads into NJAC Tournament on Wednesday, November 3 against No. 2 seed and fifth-ranked Kean University.

Sophomore CARLIE VAN TASSEL scored for Montclair State (1-5 NJAC), which closed out its season at 6-10 overall.

Scoreless through the first period, Foschini put the Lions on the the board 1:06 into the second quarter. Foschini flipped a shot that hit the post. The ball caromed back out to Mia Lanzilotta, who tapped it over to Froschini for the goal, the latter's seventh of the season and a 1-0 lead for TCNJ.

Montclair State came close to tying the contest in the last three minutes of the period. Van Tassel sent a shot saved by keeper Dan Britton. The rebound got back to Van Tassel who attempted a second shot, but this one was knocked away by Kileigh Pfluger keeping the Lions in the lead as the game headed to intermission.

Trailing by a goal, the Red Hawks tied it up 27 seconds into the fourth. MADDIE SPOLARICH sent a long ball from 30 yards out into the low part of the circle. Van Tassel, running on the play, managed to catch up to the ball and flick a shot over a sprawled Britton for her 12th goal of the year.

Montclair's LAUREN PICKUL made a save three minutes later keeping the contest at 1-1, and another on a Foschini shot with a little over 11 minutes to play.  The shot came back to Foschini, who slid a pass to Cammarata at the right post for the goal, sending TCNJ in front, 2-1.
