Men's Basketball Falls to DeSales, 79-67

Breeman Nets 20 For Red Hawks

Montclair, NJ – Sophomore forward Elijah Eberly posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds a DeSales University knocked off Montclair State, 79-67 at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon

Senior guard Mike Bealer added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench as the Bulldogs remained unbeaten on the year at 3-0. DeSales put five players in double figures as Jordan Holmavist, Matt Kachelries and Mason Barnes each netted 10 points.

Senior forward STEVEN BREEMAN led all players with 20 points and had seven rebounds for the Red Hawks, who fell to 1-1. DEVIN COOPER collected 12 points and five assists with IRVING CALLENDER IV chipping in with 11 points and seven boards.

MSU led 16-11 midway through the first half before the Bulldogs went on a 27-11 run over the next eight-plus minutes to turn a five-point deficit into 38-27 advantage with 1:27 to play before halftime. DeSales went 10-of-16 from the field in the span with eight different players scoring. Barnes, Kalchelries and Christin Guldin each registered five points.

The Bulldogs led 38-30 at the open and extended that to 54-34 in the first seven minutes of the second half. Dat Lambert had four points with Kachelries and Guldin getting three each. On the flip side, Montclair State was 0-for-7 from the floor in the time frame with all four points coming from the charity stripe – two each by Breeman and KIERAN FLANAGAN.  

Montclair would trim the deficit back to 73-55 with 3:32 left on a jumper by Cooper in the paint, however Bealer drained a three-pointer at the other end restoring the lead back to 18 points.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, November 13 hosting University of Valley Forge at 7:00 pm.
