Women's Soccer: Gameday Preview vs. Rowan (NJAC Semifinals)

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's soccer team hosts Rowan University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Semifinals Tuesday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks (12-4, 7-2 NJAC) closed out the regular season with a 1-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark Wednesday. Needing a win to clinch the No. 2 seed, the Red Hawks got what they needed when TARA LAMBERT converted a free-kick in the 60th minute. Montclair State outshot Rutgers-Newark 19-3 in the win.

SCOUTING THE PROFS
The Profs, who earned the No. 3 seed, topped Rutgers-Camden 1-0 Saturday. Aidan Sheehan scored the lone goal for the Profs in the third minute. It was the second matchup in four days, as Rowan had rallied from a 2-0 deficit to top the Scarlet Raptors 3-2 on October 27. Rowan scored twice in a 3:48 span late in the game to win.
 
MONTCLAIR STATE NJAC HISTORY:
Montclair State has made 22 appearances in the NJAC Women's Soccer Championship since its inception in 1999. The Red Hawks are 13-13-12 all-time, including 8-4 in penalty kicks. MSU has claimed four championships in 2004, 2012, 2014, and 2021 (spring) while reaching the championship game 10 times.
 
LAST MEETING
Montclair topped Rowan 2-1 on October 23. AILEEN CAHILL scored in the 15th minute before Cassidy McErlain equalized in the 32nd. CATHERINE CARNEVALE notched the game-winner in the 52nd minute, heading in a free-kick from EMMI DENOVELLIS. HALEY MARTIN made a career-high six saves and denied Emma DeMaise on a penalty kick shortly after MSU took the 1-0 lead.
 
SERIES HISTORY
MSU is 9-14-8 all-time against Rowan, as the Profs won six straight matches from 2007-2012. The two sides traded one-goal victories in 2018 and 2019, and before that, five of the last seven games had ended in a draw. 
 
UP NEXT
The winner of this matchup will face the winner of No. 1 TCNJ/No. 4 Stockton University in the NJAC Championship Friday evening at the site of the highest remaining seed.
