Volleyball: Gameday Preview vs. Stockton (NJAC Semifinals)

Montclair, NJ – The No. 2 seeded Montclair State volleyball team hosts No. 3 seed Stockton University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Semifinals Thursday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks (19-10, 7-1 NJAC) downed Vassar in their final regular-season game on Saturday. Senior LEAH HIGGINS slugged 10 kills while GIANNA ARIAS tallied eight kills and five blocks. The Red Hawks were led defensively by KATELYN MONAGHAN and her 17 digs.

STOCKTON REPORT 
The Ospreys are riding into the NJAC Semifinals on a four-match winning streak, including a 3-0 victory over sixth-seeded William Paterson in the NJAC Quarterfinals Tuesday. Emma Capriglione led the way with 11 kills while Charlotte Leon tallied 10. 
 
LAST MEETING
Montclair topped Stockton 3-1 on October 12 for just the fifth win over the Ospreys in 57 matches. Higgins tallied 12 kills while VICTORIA TENNON posted 10. DELANEY ST. PIERRE dished out 41 assists, and Monaghan had 16 digs.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Montclair is 5-52 all-time against Stockton, with all four wins coming since 2007. The Red Hawks' lone home victory before this season came in 2009 when they won in four sets. Their last postseason victory came in the 2016 NJAC Semifinals, battling back from a 2-0 hole to win in five.
 
POSTSEASON HISTORY
The Red Hawks are making their 28th appearance in the NJAC Tournament and are 21-29 in the dance. The Red Hawks won the NJAC Championship in 1997, 2007, and 2016 and have faced Stockton 21 times. They are 1-20 in the playoffs against, with the lone victory coming in the 2016 NJAC Semifinals when they vanquished a 2-0 deficit to storm back and win 3-2.

UP NEXT
The winner of this semifinal matchup will meet the winner of No. 1 Rowan University and No. 4 Kean University in the NJAC Championship on Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed.
