Montclair, NJ – Junior guard KEYON PRYCE and senior forward IRVING CALLENDER IV scored 23 points each as Montclair State pulled away in the second half for a 94-76 victory.
Senior forward STEVEN BREEMAN added 17 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, helping the Red Hawks get back into the win column. MSU is now 4-2 overall, 1-1 in the NJAC after picking up their third consecutive victory over the Roadrunners as the two met for the first time since January 2020. Montclair leads the all-time series 50-45.
Sophomore guard Mark Howell had 20 points off the bench for Ramapo (1-4, 0-2 NJAC), which dropped its fourth straight contest.
The first half of momentum swings would go in the Red Hawks' favor as MSU led 52-48 after the first 20 minutes.
Pryce connected three times from behind the arc for nine points as Montclair expanded a 14-12 lead into a 35-35 advantage with 7:28 to play. Callender capped that run with two free throws. Ramapo answered with an 18-4 spurt of its own over the next four minutes. Jordan Myers had eight points and Howell five, including two from the line with 3:20, left, giving the Roadrunners a 43-38 lead.
Montclair State countered that with a 14-5 run closing out the first half. Breeman scored seven and sank three at the charity stripe with nine seconds remaining, making the score 52-47. Myers' foul shot for Ramapo with one tick sent the teams into the locker room with MSU holding the four-point advantage.
The Red Hawks would score 13 of the first 17 points of the second, widening its lead to 65-52 on a Pryce three-pointer with 15:59 left. That lead would hold, although the Roadrunners would get within seven points on two occasions. The last came with 7:27 to play as Howell connected on a jumper in the paint as Ramapo got within 78-71.
But Breeman hit from three at the other end, stole the ensuing inbounds pass, and made a layup restoring the lead to double-digits at 83-71 with 6:39 on the clock. Ramapo would get no closer the rest of the way.
DEVIN COOPER finished with 11 points while KIERAN FLANAGAN put up a trio of sixes – six points, six rebounds, and six assists. KALLEEM LAMBERT also had six points. Montclair shot 46 percent from the field (30-of-64) and made 18-of-23 attempts at the foul line (78.3 percent).
Myers had 13 points for the Roadrunners, with Marquise Kindel recording a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Peter Gorman added 12 points.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, December 4, making the trip to Ewing, NJ, to face The College of New Jersey at 3:00 pm.
