Women's Soccer Plays Scoreless Draw with Stockton in Season Opener

Bledsoe Two Saves in Shutout

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women outshot Stockton University by a wide margin, however neither team could come up with a goal as the two played to a scoreless draw in their season opener at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Stockton goalkeeper Jennifer Devault stopped 12 shots with MSU's PHOEBE BLEDSOE making two as the two teams played to their 11th tie in 33 meetings, including six that ended 0-0. The Red Hawks outshot the Ospreys 31-3 and took seven of the eight corner kicks in the match.

In the first half, Bledsoe made one of her two stops early with Devault coming up with back-to-back saves in the 21st and 22nd minute. Devault would add another with six minutes remaining and posted her fifth of the half with 30 seconds to play, scooping up a shot by CALLIE BOHUS.

Devault would get tested five more times in the final 45 minutes of regulation, but came up solid on each occasions. She denied KAITLYN SCRIVANICH in the 74th minute and thwarted an attempt by Samantha Senator two minutes later. A shot from KERRI DRISCOLL with 1:33 would be snared by Devault with her last one coming against AILEEN CAHILL with 26 seconds to play.

Devault recorded one in the first overtime and another late in the second OT to preserve the tie. Meanwhile, Stockton, which had been held to just two shots in the first 100 minutes, nearly one the game midway in the second overtime. Danielle Christ sent a ball from the far right wing toward the goal where Bledsoe was able get hand on it. The ball then clanged off the crossbar with the Red Hawks clearing it away as the game stayed scoreless.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, March 13 when it travels to New Jersey City University for a 1:00 pm start at the Gerrity Complex against the Gothic Knights.
