Red Hawks Win Last Two Sets to Top Scarlet Raptors

Freshman SKYLAR KOWALSKI added 10 kills and sophomore GIANNA ARIAS total five along with nine blocks as the Red Hawks (3-1, 3-1 NJAC) recorded their third straight victory.

Rutgers-Camden (2-2, 2-2 NJAC) took the opening set 27-25, however MSU was able to square the match with a 25-18 in Set 2 as Waterman and Higgins put up five and four kills, respectively. The Raptors took back the lead with a 25-23 win in the third, but Montclair battled back as the duo had six kills each sending the match to the deciding fifth set.

Knotted a 2-2 in the fifth, the Red Hawks scored four consecutive points, starting with a kill by Higgins and finishing with an ace by Kowalski making the score 6-2. Rutgers-Camden answered with six of the next eight, tying things up at 8-8 and the two would be deadlocked at 10-10 before MSU made its move.

Kowalski put down a set from KELLY WATERMAN and Kaitlyn Monaghan served up an ace. Rutgers-Camden committed back-to-back miscues putting the score at 14-10 in favor of the Red Hawks. Delaney Kolb and Devyn Cobb each had kill to close the gap to 14-12, but an attack error on the ensuing rally by the Raptors ended the set and the match as Montclair registered its fourth straight victory over Rutgers-Camden and sixth in the last seven meetings.
