Cimilluca Nets Overtime Winner to Lead Field Hockey Past Stockton

Cimilluca, Van Tassel Net Goals in Win

Montclair, NJ – Senior ELIZABETH CIMILLUCA scored 2:35 into overtime to give the Montclair State field hockey team a 2-1 win over Stockton University Saturday.

CARLIE VAN TASSEL had the other goal for the Red Hawks (1-2, 1-1 NJAC). Tori Wilson netted the Ospreys (0-3, 0-2 NJAC) lone tally of the afternoon.

Stockton had the early flurry of chances, but sophomore goalkeeper LAUREN PICKUL made two saves in the fifth minute to keep the game scoreless. Montclair nearly broke through in the eighth minute, but Cimilluca's shot off a corner was wide. The Red Hawks put a shot on frame in the 15th minute, Stockton's keeper kicked it away.

Van Tassel had the Red Hawks lone scoring chance in the second period, but Stockton's Kylie Mitchell denied her shot. Stockton almost snapped the tie in the late stages of the first half, but Pickul made consecutive stops on Gianna Morganti and Lainie Allegretto to send the teams into halftime scoreless.

Stockton held an 8-4 halftime edge in shots and had an 8-3 advantage on penalty corners.

As time ticked away in the third, Lindsay Bicher had her chance off a penalty corner squashed by Mitchell. The Red Hawks were awarded a penalty stroke in the 43rd minute. Van Tassel stepped to the spot and beat Mitchell for her second goal of the year.

Montclair State carried the lead into the fourth quarter, but Stockton pulled even in the 49th minute. Pickul made an initial stop on Casey Cordonna, but Morganti slid the rebound pass to Tori Wilson who beat Pickul to tie things at one. Bicher had a pair of tries stopped by Mitchell, as did EVYN STEWART, but Pickul matched her with three stops and the game moved into overtime.

Cimilluca and Bicher each notched shots on goal in the extra period, but in the scrum after the Bicher miss, the Ospreys were whistled for a foul. It was the senior Cimilluca who stepped up this time. She went high and the shot evaded the keeper for her second goal of the year, sending the Red Hawks to victory.

Cimilluca and Bicher combined for 10 shots, while Madison Dancisin led Stockton with seven. Pickul made 11 saves for the Red Hawks, as Mitchell stopped eight for Stockton.
