Montclair, NJ –Sophomores JANBI KAGHADO and JUSTIN GOLDBERG each scored a goal as Montclair State blanked Rutgers-Camden, 2-0 at MSU Soccer Park on Thursday afternoon.
Junior goalkeeper SHANE KEENAN stopped four shots for his third shutout of the year as the Red Hawks remained undefeated in their return to action following a 19-day layoff. MSU had been out of action since knocking off New Jersey City at home back on March 13.
Kaghado nearly gave Montclair State a goal in the first 21 seconds as he beat Raptor goalkeeper Juan Bahena to a ball on the right side down deep in the box. Kaghado got a foot on the loose ball, however, it would trickle wide off the left post. Rutgers-Camden would get a similar chance eight minutes later with Justin Phy corralling a cross on the right side. But his shot too sailed wide to the left keeping the game scoreless.
Keenan made one more stop and Bahena three on a series of shots in the 15th minute before the first goal was put on the board. That came at the 15:36 mark as Kaghado was taken down in the box following a long serve. He would convert the opportunity for his second of the season and a 1-0 Montclair State advantage.
Keenan came up with another save to keep MSU in front and the Red Hawks caught a break with 5:07 left as Kaito Kitazawa's clanged off the crossbar off a free-kick.
Leading 1-0 at the break, the Raptors' Liam Craver fired a shot to the low left corner that was snared by Keenan in the 56th minute. Skyler Diggs had a chance with 7:03 to play with a shot to the right post. But that too was scooped up by Keenan.
Goldberg sealed the game for MSU with 4:26 remaining blasting a left-foot shot from the top of the box inside the right post for his first of the season.
Bahena finished with five saves for the Scarlet Raptors, who were outshot in the contest, 15-11.
The Red Hawks will close out their regular season on Saturday, April 3 with an 11:00 am matchup against Ramapo College at MSU Soccer Park.
