Ramapo Edges Men's Soccer in NJAC Championship Game

Montclair, NJ – Massimo Gallorini's seventh-minute penalty kick goal proved to be the difference as third-seeded- Ramapo knocked off top-seeded Montclair 1-0 in the NJAC Men's Soccer Championship Game.

The Red Hawks (5-1-0) were vying for their ninth NJAC title and were hoping to repeat their 2019 Championship performance. The Roadrunners (5-1-1) earned their first NJAC Men's Soccer Championship in program history.
After Montclair was whistled for a foul in the box, Gallorini stepped up to the spot and delivered the game's lone goal, shooting into the right side of the goal. Montclair nearly answered back in the 16th minute, but sophomore JANBI KAGHADO had his chance parried away by the goalkeeper.

In the 25th minute, STEFAN KOROMAN blasted a low try that a diving Joshua Schaffer snared. Junior SHANE KEENAN came up with a diving save in the 29th minute, knocking a Ramapo shot out for a corner kick. Neither side could post a shot on target for the rest of the frame, and the visitors took a slim 1-0 lead into halftime.

Just 36 seconds into the second half, the Red Hawks were reduced to 10 men as DANIEL RODRIGUEZ picked up his second yellow card of the match. Time kicked away, and the two sides went the first 25 minutes of the second stanza without a shot on target. Montclair had the golden chance, as OSBIN MENDEZ ripped a shot low from a distance that Schaffer denied.

Keenan preserved the one-goal deficit with a save off a corner kick in the 74th minute, and the Red Hawks continued to press for the equalizing tally. Shots by MARVIN CADENA and JUSTIN GOLDBERG went wide as Ramapo held tightly on the defensive end. Hunting for the tying goal, Keenan pressed up in the attack and even sent a cross into the box late, but the Ramapo defense cleared it out and held on for a 1-0 win.

Goldberg led the way with four shots, while Keenan and Schaffer made three saves for their respective sides.
