Women's Lax Downs Rowan, Earns NJAC Tournament Top Seed

Konen Four Goals as Red Hawks Win, 13-10

Glassboro, NJ – Junior midfielder TRISTIN KONEN scored four goals and added an assist as 24th-ranked Montclair State claimed the No. 1 seed in the NJAC Tournament with a 13-10 victory over Rowan University on Saturday.

RHIANNON BROWN added three goals and an assist as the Red Hawks remained unbeaten and finished their regular-season slate at 7-0, 5-0 in conference play. MSU will host a semifinal contest on Wednesday, April 28 at 7:00 pm.

The Red Hawks found themselves down 3-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game as Rowan's Elise Cohan scored the first goal and assisted on the third. Montclair responded with the next six goals over a 14-minute span to take the lead. Konen got it started with the first and tied the game at 3-3 with 6:17 left. HALEY DORAN put MSU in front less than a minute later with goals by Konen and AMBER GONZALEZ 21 seconds apart making the score 6-3 with 4:23 to go before halftime.

Rowan snapped that streak with just under four minutes to go on a Julia Grlica tally however, Montclair received goals from Brittany Costiagan and Brown in the final two minutes for an 8-4 lead at the break.

The teams traded the first four goals of the second half before Julianna Corson and Ashley Lechliter scored halfway through the period pulling the Profs within 10-8. Brown answered for Montclair State, but Shannen Sterner's goal with 7:15 to go made it a two-goal contest again.

Gonzalez came through with an unassisted tally with 5:39 to play and a MEGAN MAHLSTADT goal two minutes later restored the lead to 13-9. Lechliter scored with 98 seconds remaining fo what turned out to be the final goal of the game.

Mahlstadt and Costigan each finished with a goal and two assists. Costigan also pulled down 11 draws. KATHERINE YARUSSO forced three turnovers with goalkeeper ALLYN LILIEN stopping 12 shots.

The victory against Rowan snapped a five-game losing streak against the Profs and was Montclair's first since a 10-6 triumph in the semifinals of the 2017 NJAC Tournament.
