Kean Snaps Men's Lacrosse Winning Streak

Red Hawks Fall to Cougars

Union, NJ – Kean University's Brady Moore scored three times as the Cougars scored 11 consecutive goals and snapped Montclair State's four-game winning streak with a 14-2 victory in the CSAC regular-season finale on Wednesday evening.

Dean Gillette finished with a goal and three assists for the Cougars (8-1, 5-1 CSAC), who have captured both meetings with the Red Hawks this season adding Wednesday's victory to a 9-7 triumph in
Montclair back on March 12.

JOE COVINO and ROBERT BRENNAN had a goal apiece for Montclair State (7-4), which will get a third meeting with Kean on Saturday, May 1 in the semifinals of the CSAC Tournament.

Kean would get the only goal of the first quarter as Tommy Pellegrino scored off an Alex Hufford assist with 2:48 left in the opening period. Batjer added to that lead 58 seconds into the second with the first of his two goals. Brennan cut the lead to 2-1 less than minute later, however it would be the last goal MSU would score until early in the fourth quarter.

Moore jump-started the Kean offensive outburst with two goals 17 seconds apart and then fed Hufford for a goal with 8:58 remaining for a 5-1 lead. George Capria and Matt Palmieri each scored once and Dante Magliano tallied with 25 seconds to go before halftime as Kean led 8-1 at the break.

Gillette opened the second half with a goal midway through the fourth and then found Batjer two minutes later making the score 10-1. Moore and Matthew Schwartz closed out the scoring in the third for Kean with Mike Shapiro's goal 44 seconds into the fourth capping the scoring-run for Kean.

WILSON SMITH scooped up nine ground balls for Montclair State with goalkeepers MATTHEW MCLAREN and TOM POLLOCK stopping eight and three shots, respectively.
