Football Drops Second Straight; Falls to Delaware Valley

Georges Posts Double-Digit Tackle Game

Doylestown, PA – Delaware Valley's Daquan Bohannan ran for a score and threw for a touchdown as Delaware Valley upended Montclair State 26-2 at James Work Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Tahmir Barksdale returned a punt 51 yards for a score as the Aggies (2-0) scored the final 26 points while knocking off MSU for the third consecutive meeting. The two teams were meeting for the first time since the 2015 campaign.

Senior linebacker ADENS GEORGES totaled 11 tackles and a sack for MSU, which has dropped each of its first two contests. It is the first 0-2 start for Montclair since 2015 when it lost its first three games.

The Red Hawks put the first points on the point in the opening quarter as it pinned DVU back to its own 1-yard line. Forced to punt from its own end zone, DORIAN GASHI burst through the line and blocked the attempt out of the end zone for a safety with 11:59 left in the first quarter.

But that would be the only points MSU would get as the Aggies shut down the Red Hawk offense. MSU did get an opportunity to add to that lead in the second quarter after a drive stalled out at the Aggies' 25-yard line. It missed a 42-yard field goal attempt, however DelVal was offsides, nullifying the miss.  With the ball at the 20 and a 4th-and-3, Montclair State elected to go on fourth down but JA'QUILL BURCH's pass to MATT SPATUCCI was incomplete.

Meanwhile the Red Hawk defense held the Aggies, who scored 57 points the week before, off the scoreboard until the final minute of the first half. That's when Bohannan found Nashir Morgan down the right sideline for a 71-yard touchdown with 58 seconds remaining as DelVal took a 6-2 lead into halftime.

Bohannan extended the lead to 12-2 in third with a one-yard run and pushed it to 19-2 with 1:19 to go, connecting with Isaiah Calhoun on a 25-yard toss. Barksdale provided the final score with 10:24 left in the fourth with his punt return score.

SEAMUS NELSON had seven tackles and two pass breakups for Montclair State while MICHAEL STEFKOVICH added six along with a sack.

The Red Hawks return home for the start of the four-game homestand. Montclair hosts Salve Regina at Sprague Field on Saturday, September 18 with kickoff set for 2:00 pm.
