GAB MAISTO scored three times and assisted on a goal as Montclair State did all of its scoring in the second half in a 5-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday afternoon.
KYLIE COMPTON and
LINSEY CHAMPA each had goal helping the Red Hawks move to 3-2 on the year. MSU has won all 10 meeting with the Griffins. (0-6).
After a scoreless first half, MSU put the first goal on the board 2:13 into the period.
CARLEE THOMPSON had a shot stopped by Morgan Lawless, but got the rebound and flipped a pass to Maisto for the game's first goal. Compton made it 2-0 two minutes later and the Red Hawks carried that into the fourth when it blew open the game with three goals.
Maisto got the first one on an unassisted tally at the 2:08 of the quarter and recorded the hat trick off an assist from
ZOE MUSICK as MSU led 4-0 with 11:02 left. Champa had the final goal with Maisto getting the assist after MSU capitalized on a penalty corner with four seconds remaining.
LAUREN PICKUL made two saves as she recorded her first shutout of the season.
Montclair State is back home on Wednesday, September 22 hosting FDU-Florham at Sprague Field. The Red Hawks and Devils renew their intra-state rivalry at 7:00 pm.
