Men's Basketball: Game Day Preview vs. Rutgers-Newark

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's basketball team hits the road to face Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday evening.

Montclair State closed out non-conference action with an 88-67 triumph over Misericordia on December 18. STEVEN BREEMAN went 5-for-10 from three with 21 points, while IRVING CALLENDER IV notched nine points and seven boards. KEYON PRYCE added 17 points as Breeman, DEVIN COOPER, and GREG ECK handed out four assists.

SCOUTING THE SCARLET RAIDERS 
The Scarlet Raiders boast an 8-3 overall record and are 5-0 in the NJAC. In their last game, they suffered a 63-56 setback to in-state rival Drew University which snapped a four-game winning streak. Rutgers-Newark also won their season-opening John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic, topping York College (NY) and Utica.
 
LAST MEETING
The Red Hawks topped Rutgers-Newark 55-46 on February 20, 2021. They trailed by three at the break but outscored the Scarlet Raiders 32-20 in the second half, including a 14-2 spurt midway through the second stanza to break the game open. DEVIN COOPER scored 23 points and went 13-of-14 from the free-throw line.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Montclair State holds a 67-43 advantage in the all-time series, including three consecutive wins. Rutgers-Newark's best stretch came when they earned 12 straight victories from February 4, 2012 – January 21, 2017. The Red Hawks are also 26-16 inside the friendly confines of the Panzer Athletic Center.
