Swimming and Diving Takes Down Drew

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State swimming and diving teams notched victories over Drew University Saturday afternoon.
 
The women's team recorded a 160-136 win as the men tallied a 148-132 decision and served as the home opener inside the Panzer Athletic Center Pool.
 
WOMEN'S RECAP
  • After the 200-medley relay team took second, JULIE TIEDEMANN recorded a second-place mark in the 1,00-freestyle in 11:35. KATE CIPOLETTI took second in the 200-free, as Mackenzie Garcia Hynds edged her by .88 seconds.
  • SOPHIA SHOPOVICK put the Red Hawks in the win column in the 100-backstroke, as she notched a time of 1:02.04 before ABBY BROCK won the 100-breaststroke in 1:10.17.
  • Rookie CATTY GEYER nabbed second in the 200-butterfly (2:19.5) before classmate ROURKE PERALTA clipped Grace Aboussleman in the 50-freestyle. Peralta touched the wall in 24.89, .4 seconds quicker than her opponent.
  • EMMA BOWERS and AUDREY HITCHENS went 1-2 in the 1-meter dive before Peralta (100-free) and Sophovick (200-back) notched second-place marks.
  • LILI SHAY and Brock finished within .4 seconds of one another in the 200-breast before Tiedemann notched a win in the 500-free (5:32.63). Peralta recorded her second win of the day, finishing in 1:02.37 in the 100-fly, with Geyer claiming second.
  • Geyer won the 200-IM cap off victories for MSU, as the team finished off the day with a second-place time of 3:48.61 in the 400-freestyle relay.
MEN'S RECAP
  • The men's team placed second in the 200-medley relay before RYAN KAPPES, and SEAN NUGENT went 1-2 in the 1,000-freestyle. Kappes clocked in at 10:17.78, with Nugent behind him at 10:24.91.
  • SPENSER DUBOIS and ANTHONY FERRARO took second and third in the 200-free before DENNIS DELARGY grabbed second in 55.86 in the 100-back. Dubois had a victory in the 100-breast, as he edged teammate BRANDON DO by a mere .03 seconds. Dubois finished at 1:00.72, with Do behind at 1:00.75.
  • TYLER DORSETT was second in the butterfly before LUCAS GOMES registered a winning time of 21.91 in the 50-free. Gomes made it two victories in the sprints as he claimed the 100-free in 48.09.
  • DeLargy picked up a win in the 200-back (2:03.13) before Dubois (2:14.52) and Do (2:15.08) went 1-2 in the 200-breaststroke.
  • Nugent was victorious in the 500-free, as he notched a time of 4:58.55. Do capped off the victories for Montclair State with a time of 2:03.98 in the 200-IM. The team closed the day by placing second in the 400-freestyle relay in 3:22.79.

The Red Hawks visit Vassar for a meet on Friday at 6 pm.
