Field Hockey Bested by TCNJ in Regular Season Finale

Ewing, NJ – The Montclair State field hockey team fell to The College of New Jersey 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

Despite the setback, the Red Hawks (10-8, 3-3 NJAC) qualified for the NJAC Tournament and will be the No. 4 seed. TCNJ (11-5, 5-1 NJAC) will be the No. 2 seed and host No. 3 Kean.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks had the game's first scoring opportunity, as ALEXA ANTONELLI was stopped in the fourth minute by Dani Britton off a penalty corner.
  • The Lions broke through for two goals midway through the period, with Rayhanah Ahmed tallying both. The second came off a penalty corner, and TCNJ took a 2-0 lead into the second period.
  • LAUREN PICKUL made four first-half saves to keep the game at a 2-0 deficit before Britton denied CARLIE VAN TASSEL in the 47th minute.
  • After the Red Hawks were whistled for a foul, Jess Hatch converted a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute to cap off the scoring. Montclair State had two chances with under five minutes to go, but Britton made a pair of saves on TORI SUTERA to earn the shutout.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Pickul made seven saves in the setback, as Britton made four for TCNJ.
  • Sutera led Montclair State with two shots, as Ahmed posted a game-high six.
UP NEXT
The Red Hawks will face top-seeded Rowan University on Wednesday at a time yet to be determined.
