Field Hockey Downs Stockton 2-0 In NJAC Action

Van Tassel, Antonelli Tally Goals In Win

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State field hockey team earned a 2-0 victory over Stockton University in New Jersey Athletic Conference play Saturday.

CARLIE VAN TASSEL and ALEXA ANTONELLI tallied goals for Montclair State (7-5, 2-1 NJAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair State notched the only three shots of the first quarter, with all three coming in the first 5:04. Van Tassel had a pair stopped by Osprey (6-5, 0-2 NJAC) goalkeeper Kylie Mitchell and LINSEY CHAMPA pushed a shot wide.
  • Montclair State goalkeeper LAUREN PICKUL was tested early in the second period, making two stops. The Red Hawks broke through for the first goal in the 24th minute, as Van Tassel corralled a long pass and moved in on goal. The junior rifled a shot past the keeper for her team-leading sixth marker of the year.
  • The Ospreys nearly leveled late in the frame, but Pickul made two stops before KYLIE COMPTON notched a defensive save in the 29th minute.
  • The hosts doubled their lead in the 34th minute, as Antonelli scored her first collegiate goal from the left side of the circle. After holding the Osprey's shot less in the third, the Red Hawk defense clamped down and surrendered just one in the fourth to seal the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Pickul made four stops to earn her seventh victory of the year.
  • Van Tassel put all four of her shots on goal, with SADIE EICHLIN adding three.
