Women's Soccer: Game Day Preview vs. Lynchburg (NCAA First Round)

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's soccer team hosts Lynchburg in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament Saturday.

GAME INFO
Christopher Newport and John Jay will meet in the first game at 1 pm before Montclair State and Lynchburg battle at 3:30 pm, with live stats and video available on montclairathletics.com. Video can also be found on the Red Hawk Sports Network YouTube Channel.

Ticket prices are $6 for adults and $3 for students/senior citizens/children. 

LAST TIME OUT
Montclair State fell 2-1 to Rowan in the NJAC Championship Game. After surrendering a pair of goals in the first half, AILEEN CAHILL cut the lead in half with a 78th-minute tally. The Red Hawks, who outshot Rowan 16-9, had two chances late in the game but could not convert.

NJAC REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONS
The Red Hawks (16-2-1, 8-1-0 NJAC) topped Kean 3-1 in their regular-season finale on October 26 and, thanks to Rowan's 0-0 draw with Stockton, claimed the NJAC Regular Season Championship. AILEEN CAHILL, LAUREN ERNST, and KYLIE PRENDERGAST tallied a goal and an assist apiece in the win.

MONTCLAIR STATE NCAA HISTORY
Montclair State is making its eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the first since 2016. They are 9-6-1 and have advanced to the Second Round in their seven previous tournament appearances.

SCOUTING LYNCHBURG
The Hornets enter the NCAA Tournament with an 11-3-7 record and have surrendered just two goals since September 18. They knocked off Randolph-Macon 3-0 in the ODAC Quarterfinals before topping Shenandoah 1-0 in the Semifinals to make it to the Championship. They outlasted Virginia Wesleyan on penalty kicks to claim the ODAC automatic bid to the tournament.

SCOUTING CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT
The defending National Champions, Christopher Newport, claimed the C2C automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 win over Mary Washington. The Captains are riding the longest unbeaten streak in the country and are 38-0-3 since their last setback.

SCOUTING JOHN JAY
The Bulldogs are 12-2-2 on the year, with their lone setbacks coming to Rutgers-Newark and Montclair State. They were 5-0 in the CUNYAC before taking down CCNY 1-0 in the CUNYAC Championship Game.

UP NEXT
The two advancing teams will meet Sunday at 3 pm with a trip to the Sectional Tournament on the line.
